01 / Definition

What is an office pod?

An office pod is a freestanding structure purpose-built as a workspace. It sits outside the main house, typically in a garden or backyard, and gives you a dedicated room for focused work.

The Portable Pod version is built around a 4.5mm hot-dip galvanised Q235 SHS/RHS steel frame with a full-glass long elevation. It is insulated to a residential standard, wired for power and lighting, and designed to be both architecturally appealing and practically functional from day one. Every design is backed by a Form 15 Compliance Certificate for building design, provided by an RPEQ Registered Engineer, and is designed for AS/NZS 1170.2 Region C, 66 m/s ultimate design gust wind speed.

Common use cases include home offices, consulting rooms, therapy practices, podcast and video studios, pilates and yoga spaces, and guest rooms for Airbnb.

02 / Glass vs Solid

Why glass office pods are different.

Most portable offices use solid wall panels with punched windows. The result is a dark, shed-like interior that feels nothing like a proper workspace. A glass office pod inverts this, putting triple-layered tempered glazing across three walls, set in broken bridge aluminium framing.

The difference in daily use is significant. Natural light improves concentration and mood. The visual connection to the garden reduces the sense of isolation. Clients and colleagues who visit the space comment on it immediately.

Triple-layered tempered glass also outperforms single glazing on thermal retention, acoustic performance, UV reduction, and safety, and tempers to hold its strength under impact rather than shattering into sharp shards.

  • An office pod is a prefabricated, freestanding workspace structure placed outside the main house, typically in a backyard or garden. The Portable Pod is 5,950mm long by 3,000mm wide by 2,800mm high, delivering 18m² of usable floor area. It ships flat-pack and assembles in 6 days with all electrical and flooring included in the base price.
  • The standard Portable Pod is 5,950mm long, 3,000mm wide, and 2,800mm tall externally, giving approximately 18 square metres of internal floor area. That is enough for a full desk setup, a small meeting table, and a storage area. For more space, two pods can be linked side by side for 36m².
  • Yes. Wall panels use insulated composite construction with integral insulation. The roof is divided into 4 layers in total: the first layer is corrugated steel plate, the second layer is extruded polystyrene (XPS) insulation board, the third layer is OSB, and the fourth layer is bamboo-wood fibre board.
  • Yes, and it is the most common use case. The standard kit includes Australian standard electrical fittings — lights, switches, power points and power inlet — LED lighting, and a finished floor, so the space is ready to use immediately after assembly. Business owners and self-employed buyers can also claim the pod as a tax-deductible depreciating asset under ATO depreciation rules. Speak to your accountant about the specific pathway.
  • Regulations differ from council to council. We provide a Form 15 Compliance Certificate for the building structure. Along with a Form 16 from your private certifier, plus soil testing, you will be able to approach your local council for approvals.
  • The Portable Pod starts from $21,500 AUD for the standard single-pod kit. Delivery prices depend on location. A fully installed office pod with partner-builder assembly typically comes approximately $30,000 depending on your location.
